STRATEGIES joins the Playing for the Planet Alliance
Our project is developing policy recommendations to unlock the potential of the game industries to drive societal change. We are creating leading-edge carbon accounting tools for both analogue and video game production and will provide carbon literacy training for game developers. Our research goals therefore align with those of the Playing for the Planet alliance.
Playing for the Planet supports the video games industry to take action on the environment. In joining the Alliance, games companies and organisations have made specific and measurable commitments on sustainability, from reducing carbon emissions to integrating green activations in games. Playing for the Planet supports progress on these commitments through equipping members with bespoke guidance and tooling, including their industry-tailored carbon calculator, alongside participation opportunities such as our annual Green Game Jam.
The initiative is facilitated with the support of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and led by the games industry.
Playing for the Planet and STRATEGIES combine their expertise and experience in helping support the video game industries make a difference on climate change.
Our research supports the initiative as we develop and promote improved game design for sustainability, helping the game industries make ecogames that support the behavior changes needed to reach Green Deal goals.
As a member of Playing for the Planet Alliance, we will
Share our expertise about green storytelling and sustainability design;
Collaborate in improving and benchmarking industry practice on GHG emissions;
Sharing research and evidence for the behaviour change impact of games.
We believe that where research occurs on key societal issues, this research is benefitted by working together and sharing expertise and resources.
