VR Research and Greening the Digital Society

At Utrecht University, there is a growing interest in researching the intersection of digital technologies and sustainability. Our researchers are exploring various aspects, ranging from the use of big data and AI to tackle climate change and develop smart solutions, to examining the environmental impact of our digital society, including energy consumption and e-waste generation.

As part of these ongoing efforts, Joost Raessens presented his research on AI (the game PhatomVerse) and XR (the installation SpaceBuzz) within the Horizon Europe–funded research project STRATEGIES during the one-day symposium Digitization and Sustainability.

The symposium was organized by the special interest group Greening the Digital Society, as part of the focus area Governing the Digital Society, in collaboration with the special interest group Digitalization & AI for Sustainability (DAISY).
