STRATEGIES research shapes new Green Games Guide update
The Green Games Guide (GGG) has released version 1.1 of its essential open resource for sustainable design in the tabletop games industry — and STRATEGIES research has contributed directly to the update.
STRATEGIES researchers Paul Wake and Chloé Germaine (The Manchester Game Centre at Manchester Metropolitan University) have joined the GGG board, formalising a partnership between the two initiatives and reflecting the growing alignment between STRATEGIES' work on sustainable transition in Europe's game industries and the GGG's practical guidance for publishers, designers, and manufacturers worldwide.
Their contributions to version 1.1 draw on STRATEGIES research into the board game sector, including updated case studies developed through interviews with board game companies and designers, and further research on the impacts of sustainable forestry practices and the legitimacy of carbon offsets. This work is documented in STRATEGIES' Game Industry: State of the Art Report and Preliminary GHG Emissions Report.
Version 1.1 of the GGG expands the guide's materials guidance to cover textiles, metals, and glass — examining labour costs, water use, recyclability, and environmental impacts of production. The update also features new case studies showcasing innovative sustainable design across the industry, from biodegradable packaging to games made with infinitely recyclable wood composite.
