Project Coordinator begins new role at the Creative Industries Immersive Impact Coalition in the Netherlands

Last week, our project Coordinator, Joost Raessens began work as a Research member of the Supervisory Committee of the Creative Industries Immersive Impact Coalition (CIIIC).

On the recommendation of the Minister of Education, Culture and Science (OCW), Rianne Letschert, Joost represents the perspective of the research community within this ambitious national program.

CIIIC is funded by the Growth Fund and has a budget of over €250 million. Within this initiative, government, knowledge institutions, and the creative industry collaborate to strengthen and internationally position the Dutch immersive experiences (IX) ecosystem over the next four years (2026-2029), with the aim of achieving both economic and societal impact.

The Supervisory Committee of CIIIC safeguards the quality, relevance, and societal impact of the program. As an independent body, the committee advises OCW on strategic decisions and monitors the progress of CIIIC’s mission.

For Joost personally, there is a clear task: there is convincing evidence that immersive experiences (IX) are effective, but there is still a lack of detailed and quantitative insights into how specific design patterns produce different long-term effects—under which conditions and for which target groups. Developing and applying this knowledge enables creators to design targeted and responsible IX content for a wide range of applications and audiences. His work within this committee also aligns with his role as coordinator of the Horizon Europe project STRATEGIES.
