New video: AI & Games, Sustainability Challenges

See the full discussion on the findings of two research projects on the impact of AI on sustainability goals, aiming to equip developers with the knowledge that can help align the use of these technologies with sustainability. This video is a collaboration between STRATEGIES and the Sustainable Games Alliance. Find more industry videos over on their YouTube channel.

In this video Ben Abraham (SGA) presents a summary of key projections and expectations from the International Energy Agency’s 2025 “Energy and AI” report, to provide context for the AI buildout, before highlighting the latest and most accurate data sources that can be used for scoping the environmental costs associated with the use of AI training and inference.

Second, Chloé Germaine (Manchester Metropolitan University), shares headlines from a report on the use of AI in the games industry, published as part of the STRATEGIES Horizon Europe project. Chloé will make the case that a lack of visibility into the true environmental costs of AI is enabling greenwashing. She will argue that adoption decisions are being driven by hype and competitive pressure rather than evidence, risking wasted investment. We share the information developers need to make informed and responsible choices in AI use.
